As a female patient of Practice Plus Brighton, you can now access our one-stop service to test and treat cystitis at the Boots Pharmacy on North Street. It’s an easy and quick way to getting the advice and treatment you may need, without necessarily seeing your GP.
Cystitis is a type of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) caused by a bacterial infection which results in inflammation of the bladder. Common symptoms include burning pain when passing urine, cloudy urine, or needing to pass urine more often than usual. It’s an extremely common condition in females, and although it can be really uncomfortable, it’s usually easy to treat.
The service is available to registered female patients, aged 16-64 at the Boots Pharmacy on North Street, and is being delivered by Boots Pharmacists on behalf of the Practice Plus NHS GP service. It’s a walk-in service so you do not need to book an appointment to be seen.
If you have more complex symptoms or if you feel unwell; for example, if you have a high temperature or flu-like symptoms, signs of a kidney infection such as back pain etc., we recommend you speak to your GP. We also recommend you see your GP if your only symptom is visible blood in your urine, or if you have had two or more bouts of cystitis within the last six months. This service is also not suitable if you are pregnant or have diabetes.
If the service isn’t suitable for you, or if you have more severe or concerning symptoms, you will be referred back to the surgery for appropriate assessment and attention
For more information on this service please speak to a member of the Practice Plus team on 0300 130 3333 and select option 1. You can also check your symptoms online using the Practice Plus symptom checker via your Personal Health Hub to ensure you get the right care you need.
This Sunday, 17th November, we will run a restricted service in the walk-in clinic.
Please be aware that we are not able to provide service to children under 16 years and pregnant women. Please call NHS 111 if you need to be seen urgently.
